S80 T6 jerking forward during acceleration

Everything on the Volvo S80. Sometimes called an "executive car", the S80 was Volvo's top-of-the-line passenger car. P2 platform.

S80 T6 jerking forward during acceleration

Post by Fedexman »

I have noticed that when I get on the gas and use the power of the motor it starts jerking forward which is weird to me, I would have thought that this car would not jerk but smoothly accelerate instead of accelerate then quit and accelerate and then quit. If this is normal please let me know. I am thinking that I have a problem but not sure. thanks.

Sounds a bit like what was happening to me.

You can try manually changing the gears. If it still does it even when you NOT changing into another gear, then I would suspect the turbo control valve. In my car it would go like a rocket, build up revs, then unexpectedly dump revs and acceleration before picking up again.

If it doesn't do it in manual mode then it could be a transmission issue, but I don't have any experience with that ...*crosses fingers*

Fedexman, My S70 T5 did the same thing when I put on the gas. It would start choking out. Turned out an air "hose" had rotted out and the airflow wasn't what it should have been. I replaced the hose and it ran great.

Thanks guys, I just done a tune up today and I am going to run it tomorrow to see how it does, a guy at autozone mentioned the dtsc system being on so I turned it off and still the same thing, Checked all hoses today and the airflow looks good although in one of the air intake sensor plug ins there was some oil and also oil in the turbo tube not much just a little, if anyone knows what that could be from let me know because it has got me curious.

Sounds like the TCV (turbo control valve) also called BPS (boost pressure solenoid) on the side of the air box. I had the same problem and a new TCV fixed it. Got one from FCP Groton or try IPD USA.
