Hi All,
I've ordered a keyless entry remote for my 1998 V70. I've seen on this site that I will have to take it to a dealer to re-program. I've called around to a few dealers who are quoting me anywhere from $50- $120 to do this - but one dealer said you cannot re-program them at all!! I don't think this is true, but wanted some solid advice from people on here. I'd hate to take my car to my mechanic (the $50 quote) to have him say that I need a whole new remote.
Thanks for any info!
Brook
The Dealer says you can't re-program a V70 Keyless entry?!
I have a feeling that's just BS on their part. They just want you to buy a remote from them for $120.
Please let us know what happens, I have a remote I need programed as well, so I'm curious to find out how it goes. The dealer here quoted me $30 to reprogram.

Well, the link above is for a 2000 model Volvo. They do take a download and they are much more difficult to program and cost more. My '98 S70 is much easier (and I assume the V70 is the same for the same year), but still takes the dealer to do. They take your VIN number and from that they get a PIN number to use with their special volvo scan tool. My dealer only charged me $25 to do it. Just don't tell them you got the remote from eBay. I'm sure the dealer who refused you service wasn't going to do this for you because he wanted to sell you a new one, although he can do it if he wanted to. I'm not sure what your dealer will charge you, but I wouldn't call around...I would just show up...maybe buy a part or two at the parts desk (a nice red Volvo pen for the wife, etc.) and just casually mention that your remote quit working and what would it cost to get it going again...something like that. They might even do it for free if they aren't busy. Just make sure you have all your remotes with you that you'll be using with your car. Programming one will erase the code for the other remotes, unless they are done in sequence...one right after another (I think once the code is in the car, there are a series of buttons that are pushed on the remotes themselves, and they have to be pushed within a few seconds of each other). Actually, the car is programmed to the remotes, and not the remotes to the car. The car can be programmed for up to 3 remotes for the 70 series Volvos. Hope this info helps.
