Boost Gauge Install Location

I have a 2000 S40 mid head rebuild and once it is completed, I wanted to check the turbo for boost. The car does not come with a boost gauge. I don't know if I really want to install one, but I would like to check the boost at least. What is the best place to test the boost with a gauge? (ie. which vacuum line should I use?) Thanks dudes.

Go to www.ipdusa.com and enter your vehicle information. Under Engine, Exhaust, look for a Wastegate tool, then Product Video...watch the video.

Well I think I could put together a tool for that. But the question I have now is what is the base wastegate pressure I should be using for my B4204T2 engine since it is not on that list? Also, this really isn't checking my boost, but rather adjusting the wastegate to be in the 'correct' position.

EDIT: Well, I think I figured out my answer. So correct me if I am wrong. Assuming there are not leaks and the TCV is working properly, the wastegate pressure will tell me what boot I am at then? Sorry I don't know much about turbos but I am trying to learn.

What I've found on Google for S40 (B4204T2) is Stock Boost= 0.9 bar or using conversion chart of .069999 that equals (13 psi) stock. Do not go over 19 psi or you will bend some rods. One guy is running 16 psi on his S40, but will not see it on his gauge until after 3rd gear. So you must view the video, test your current boost level as a starting point; to know where you are now, and where you want to go from there.

Any vacuum port on the engine after the throttle body will give you actual engine boost! You could see 20psi right off the turbo. Go after the throttle body to get an accurate reading!

When you hook up your boost gauge you want to see actual engine boost. The turbo will push more than what the car is set for, it has to build enough boost fast enough to reach ie. 10psi. The boost setting on the cars is based on manifold boost pressure not intercooler piping or turbo actual pressure! If you go to any vacuum line after the throttle body you will be reading actual system pressure. The TCV line comes from the turbo and will not show you system pressure. There's a vacuum tree at the top of the throttle body (behind the throttle plate.) Hook up to that! I spliced into the factory boost gauge line, which comes from the vacuum tree. But since you can't splice into the line just run one from there into the car.I can take pics later if you need!
