Daughter takes out intercooler

Post by keepersboy »

So my daughter has had her license for all of 6 days now, and takes my 98 v70, because I cant seem to get the timing belt on her 850t.She then skids on a gravel road, over corrects and goes in ditch. :x Only real damage so far is bottom of intercooler is smashed. Radiator seems ok. Questions: I've found salvage coolers for about $150, new around $400, Is there any real reason to go with new, Do they ever really wear out or just get leaks with age? Any tips on replacing, just put new radiator in about 6 weeks ago, just trying to remember if intercooler will slip down without removing and draining radiator. Should I make the little princess repair it herself, even though it will take 3 times as long, and I will have to stand there biting my lip the whole time? :?

My sister backed into my car after she'd had her license for 2 weeks. It was parked out front in the cul-de-sac, not really anywhere near the driveway. We heard a loud "CRACK" and she said "I thought I hit the curb". :? My entire taillight was smashed.

The intercooler and radiator both come down as one unit before you can separate them - which means removing the radiator hoses.

Just go with a used one - they don't really break unless you smash them, and I bet you can get it for even cheaper than that!

Make her fix it! Its not too hard, aside from the hose section of it. It'll teach her a lesson.
Speed has never killed anyone, suddenly becoming stationary... That's what gets you.

And teach her at the same time that she can fix cars, how liberating....

Have her do it, but be around to assist.
Awesome bonding experience - Go for it!
And in this day and age, you'd be doing her a HUGE favor.
Far too many kids feeling that they're owed a living these days...
A project like this will do great things for her self esteem.
And Yours!
