1990 740 car cuts out and dies when i press gas pedal,
my 1990 740 GL starts ok, then when i'm driving i'll come to a stoplight or stop sign and when I go to take off again, my car will cut out, and putt along when I press the gas pedal. My rpm's will drop when I press the gas pedal down, but if I let off the rpms go back up , but when I try to accelerate my car will putt along and sometimes die on me, sometimes it will pull itself out of it and continue to drive until the next stoplight and the same problem persists. any information you can give me will be greatly appreciated. have any of you expirienced this before?

possibilities are bad air mass sensor, bad throttle position sensor. You can unplug the air mass sensor when you are having the problem and if it runs better there is your culprit. The throttle position sensor you can check with the key on and an analog (needle) meter voltage should smoothly increase with smootly increased throttle opening. I am not sure but I think you should get .5v at idle and 4.5v at wot. Usually throttle position sensor would go bad at one throttle setting. I just thought of another. If your fuel pressure regulator is sticking the pressure can get stuck high, car goes rich and putt, putt, etc. Check that the vacuum hose to the fpr is not cracked or fallen off.
