220 hp
A decent engine. Not a rocketship but a nice all around motor
Regardless...if you want more hp you will need to buy parts, either an ECU chip or a manual boost controller (which personally I don't care for but some do)
I suggest joining http://www.volvospeed.com as the 850/X70 hot rodders are for the most part troll over there. Some of them may be very helpful (if you ask the right way, if not, you may get some idiotic responses, bunch of children)!!!
Good luck.
You will get many ideas, but before you jump in and do/buy something, try to absorb all the posts and figure out who is making sense and who's not.
It depends on exactly how much more power you want and what you're willing to spend.
For about $500 (plus or minus) you can either chip your own ECU or find a used one and swap it, this takes 3 minutes
This is the simplest and the fastest way to get a SAFE, RELIABLE 30 or so extra hp.
You WILL notice the difference BIG TIME.
There are other things involved, how many miles are on this 850?
What's the condition of the turbo?
Is the car and engine at a full stage 0 (do a search)? You need to do this first
How is the breather (PCV) system? It needs to be fresh and clean and it costs some bucks to replace everything in it before you add HP which naturally adds some pressure and stress to everything
These are factors that come into consideration
Also, if you're "spinning tires at 30 MPH" you need to look at your tires.
Frankly in the dry, it should not do this

No you're not.trophytaker308 wrote:when tax season comes in im replacing everything new pcv etc.im only going to have around 360 hp when im done, i dont want more hp cause i dont want to end up with bent rods.im going to have 3000 to play with.
VERY few have made 360 HP out of this engine and to do requires STUPID money and a ton of talent.
If you want a high HP car, save your pennies and buy a newer car or a car that has more HP to begin with or is easily "moddable" these are not.
You can bend rods at anything over 300-310 HP, very easily and very quickly
You can get into the high 200s with relative ease 275-285 (and dollars!) anything over 280 HP requires SERIOUS money and SERIOUS knowledge.
Also these automatic transmissions really can't safely handle much more than 300 HP
These are a lot of fun to drive with that amount of HP (275) and are faster than you may think, an 850 is a fairly light car (3300 lbs).

ther are cars on you tube with 800hp.and i dont want another car, this is one of my voforite cars.but i think i will stick with 275-300.a was also going to put the big bore intake on also and do all the pvc things brand new.and i has a new timing belt in it right now..car runs reall strong.

You believe everything you see and what some idiot tells you?, that's fine
800 HP? (Ha, my rear end)!
There is not a single 5 cyl Volvo that ever made 800 HP.
The friggen 5 cyl Volvo race cars make about 480 or so!
You Tube?
That's a FOUR (4) cylinder RED BLOCK engine, a completely different engine and much stronger, it's also a 1/4 mile at a time motor, not streetable in any way

Trophy,
If you want to spend a little to get a little, thats okay. Make sure your car IS at STAGE ZERO first, then start your mods. Stage I or II is reasonable, and III, for (ill-legal street racing) and weekends, but not daily drives.

It's a FWD car. It's never going to be a race car.
