Shift linkage service code

Post by jack1948 »

My daughter-in-law parked her S40 on a hill. Upon returning to the car and starting normally, she shifted into neutral and it will not go into any other gear.
Service dept. guy said she may have broken or dislodged the linkage.

Anyone have any ideas or quick fixes??

Thanks

Jack

It is not very difficult to check the linkage. To the left of the battery under a few hoses, you should see a cable attached to an arm on the top of the trans. The end is circular with a black grommet in the middle of it. Have somebody shit the car while to look at it. Also, it should make a clicking sound when you shift gears. That can be a audio signal it is working, if not you will need to make sure the cable is not broken or has not disconnected from the shit lever inside the car.
