Hey guys, hope someone can answer this question.
I've got a '97 850 Wagon and when the headlights are on the left turn signal light illuminates. When this happens the turn signal lever doesn't work nor does the hazard light switch. When the headlights are off, everything works as it should. Any suggestions? Thanks.

It could be a ground wire loose in your headlight master switch. Take it out and have a look, it may also need a little CRC Electronic Spray cleaning. Does your dashboard light up incorrectly or irrational? If this is the case, insert key to position II(do NOT turn on car), and giggle the key. Start car and inspect all lighting. If this method works properly, it is your ignition switch, and needs replacing.

Without actually being there, I'm just going by my gut and some wiring diagrams.
And a little more detail would help. Like, when did this start?
Has it always been this way? Did you just get this car?
When you say it's cool with the heads lights off, what about just the parking lights?
Check the connections in the lamp socket for the FL turn/marker light.
( And Be SURE you have the correct lamp in there! )
Have a good look at the connections at the battery's negative post.
Unplug the turn signal stalk connector and see what happens.
The headlight switch doesn't look light a likely suspect to me.
The only ground that I see is there to make the little lamp in there work.
And there don't appear to be any links to the turn signals in that switch.
Add to that, the switch just shoots low current control signals to the
main headlight relay. That relay really does the heavy lifting for headlights.

Good catch - Hadn't even considered trailer wiring.
That can really monkey things up if it isn't installed well...

If you have access to a second hand hazard light unit, try replacing it, this solved my issues which presented as you describe.
