Hi,
This post was very helpful and using the instructions I replaced my siren module without a hitch on my 2006 S80 (I had the error message and a non-functional sun roof). After reconnecting the battery and performing the reset I thought I was home free. The error seemed to be cleared and life was again good.
Unfortunately, the error came back again in a few days (though the sun roof continued to work correctly this time). I tried the reset again, and the message went away for a day or so, but it kept coming back.
I took the car to my local Volvo dealer and they said that they saw a "hard error" in the module. I returned the module and received a replacement. After installing the new module and doing the reset, again the message went away, but again it came back in a few days. Is it possible that there is a problem with the upper ECU and not the module itself?
Any help is greatly appreciated!
Chris

Fix Siren Module on 2001 Volvo S80
Hi
In mine siren batery leaked out too, but acid demaged some paths on the board. Could anyone have/make a detailed photo of siren circuit board (specially the center of the plate)? I think it may be a easy to repair but i don't find any schematics of this electonics on the net.

I replaced my siren/module with one from:

I don't remember having to reconfigure anything other than perhaps recalibrate the sunroof..... And perhaps I cleared any codes with the PPC Diagnostic tool which I purchased from BSR in Sweden....

Thanks to all of the advice in this thread, I was able to successfully replace my alarm module in my '01 V70. I do have a couple of comments -
1. I was able to back out the tamper proof screw with vise grips like a few others that posted here.
2. I disconnected the old alarm module a couple of days before my new one arrived. After removing the old one, I reset the system by locking / unlocking three times and everything functioned just fine. I had working interior lights, sunroof, and door locks. I even had the blinking alarm light on the dash, just as if my alarm was functioning ALL WITHOUT THE module in place. I drove the car for two days like this without any problems. My new module arrived and I installed it and reset the system, and all appears well.
Perhaps disconnecting the module is an OK thing to do after all???????
Is there a way to test the alarm to make sure it is functioning properly?

Roll the window down, close the door and arm the alarm with the fob, then reach in and open the door using the inside door handle, if everything is working the horn should sound and lights flash.

Can anyone tell me where the siren module is located on a 2001 S80 T6? I'm getting the "Alarm System Service Requied" message and want to check out the module. Thanks.

My VADIS only lists for LHD but I think yours will be the same.
It is in the front of the right hand front wheel well.
See the attached print screen from VADIS.

I did considerable research on battery replacement options for the Volvo Siren Module. Some people had the idea of using Ni-Cd batteries but you really should stick with Ni-MH as the charging ciruitry is designed specifically for that type of battery.
The original supplier was Nordic Battery. They were just a distributor. I contacted a support agent there named Per and he told me their supplier doesn't supply to them any more. I don't know if this means Volvo's siren module maker gets the batteries elsewhere or if they are using a different solution. But the Nordic Battery link/supply is no longer an option.
Those button batteries were rare because they were 2.4v so the 7.2v stack was only three cells high. And they had good capacity for their size, at 250mAh.
You won't find a 2.4v cell and you will need to get a stack of six 1.2v cells.
There are numerous chinese battery suppliers you will find from a Google search or on alibaba.com but these are wholesalers and have minimum orders of 1000+ so that's not an option.
The RC hobby market turned out the provide the most choices. I searched this for a long time and finally found what I think is the best two options.

This company, in Las Vegas, has two different size 7.2v packs. One uses a 1/3 AAA height pack of six cells. The other uses a 2/3 AAA height pack of six cells. Both are 7.2v. The smaller pack is 200mAh and the larger is 350mAh.
I wasn't sure of the fit inside the siren module (and remember you need to secure it somehow in there). The larger pack would have better capacity but I wasn't sure if it would fit so I bought the smaller one and gave up a little run-time on the siren. Frankly, I think that won't ever matter since the siren is never going to run for an hour anyway. And a very old battery that I've been living with probably only has about 50mAh capacity left anyway.
To secure this, I drilled two holes in the case and used a cable/zip tie. The holes must be sealed up so use silicone caulk, hot glue or somesuch thing to keep the elements out.
The battery was under $8 and shipping was $4.
