I need some help. I'm in disagreement with Carchex -- an MVS partner -- about what page you go to when you click their ad on MVS pages.

No, this isn't a cheap way to have you go to a partner's site. This is a technical problem that I need a real-world sample (you) to decide if they are correct (it goes to a A) or if I'm correct (it goes to B).

How you can help
  • Disable ad blockers in your browser, if you use them
  • Go to the Volvo Repair Database page
  • Click on the CARCHEX ad on the right side of the page, then look at the CARCHEX page
  • Come back here and vote, based on what you see

The ad was there to click on while AdBlocker was active?

The whole point of this exercise is to determine if MVS will get credit if you buy a CARCHEX warranty. If you get the generic page -- B -- I believe I do not get credit. I'll confirm that with them. That's why this is important.

I went to a public library today to try it and got B. I'm 100% positive the PC there had never been to MVS or carchex.com, and even if it had -- beating astronomical odds* -- the browsers get completely flushed after a library patron logs off. Libraries here nuke all session data in accordance with state law:
When a computer session is ended, all information about that session is ordinarily deleted.

Now that I've visited the Carchex site, and a cookie has been stored, I get A and B regardless of whether or not AdBlocker is active.

I voted B, but it's more complicated...B when I wasn't logged into MVS, A when I was.

Ok, all figured out. The very professional CARCHEX technical liason I spoke to just now said MVS gets credit no matter what.

The reason some are getting the regular image (B) is because the CARCHEX system queries a database for what to put in that image slot. If that database doesn't get back with the answer in n number of seconds, it puts the the regular image in. In addition, it can depend on your connection speed at home (or wherever you're using the Internet from).

Summary: All's well. It is a simple technical server thing.

Thanks to the CARCHEX guys for going out of their way to help diagnose this.
