I'd call the dealer and ask. Then when they say "do you want to order one?" just say you have to check with your wife first. That's what I do whenever a salesperson makes a pitch to me I'm not sure of :-).

Then you can go looking on eBay for one.

Perhaps it is not possible for you to program it:
Question
Hello, I have just acquired a new key fob for my 2000 s80 and was wondering if I can program it myself or would I have to go to the dealer. I would really like to do it myself but I think I am going to be out of luck.

Thanx

Answer
Hello,
Unfortunately, no. You should go to dealer, because it will need a software download to be programmed to the car.

Whatever you do DO NOT buy a remote off Ebay or any other used remote for that matter. I've been through this whole thing.

When a remote comes new, the code to program it is on the outside of the package. Therefore any used remote is useless, unless someone has actually kept their package over the years......doubtful

You can pick one up at the dealer for $85-110, but you still have to have it progammed. From what I've been told, after all said and done, you'll be forking out $325 to replace a lost remote. $hitty deal

Absolutely right. Just came from the dealership myself. The labor is about $50. The programming software is about $125. The key is another $27.00 and the keyless remote itself is about $80, plus taxes. $hitty deal is right.

did you say $25 for the key????? my dealership told me about $200 for the friggin' key because of the computer chip in the key! i would rather have no computer chip in the key, have my car stolen, and have to pay less of a deductible than the damn key costs!!!
now, my guy who fixes the car just got this software that they use at the dealership and says that he can reprogram the clicker that came with our s80 (while he's doing a $1500 job for oil sludge, but that's a whole OTHER story and you do NOT want me to get started on that one!!!). we'll see!

Can you get the "code" for these remotes from the circuit board inside of it (if you cannot locate the original packaging)?
I noticed that there are two sets of numbers on the PCB board. Does anyone how many alpha-numeric characters to look for?

Thanks,
Eli

i dunno about any1 else but when i bought my car used from a pvt owner. he gave me 3 keys, 2 sets of keys with remotes, and 1 all metal key with no rubber on it( a wallet key) and a little plastic ziptie looking think with a number on it. this is the number for your key! all of these 3 keys operate all locks. its a 194 850 turbo wagon. i just lost a set of keys and i lost the plastic thing with code. but i still have 1 remote and 2 keys left. hoepfully i will find my other set as my house and other keys were on there!

hi there,
I got an idea...
First of all I've missed something - you lost your last remote, and dont have any remote anymore or just the second one?
In case you don't have any remote anymore and you don't mind the functions to open the trunk and to turn on the ambient lights (just lock/unlock and on/off the alarm if you car is equiped with alarm) you could bay a cheap alarm and connect it to the lock/unlock cabels in the drivers door (nothing more, you dont need other functions as Engine cut off, Shock sensors and so on)
What I mean: aftermarket car alarms (you need some of the most stupid ones) can control the central locking - OK. Even there are modules(not alarm system just module) that just control central locking with remote control - that would be ideal for you.
http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/Car-Remote-Co ... 336d1f3d70 - example of kayless module
http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/Car-Alarm-Sec ... 336d2083b8 example of car alarm system
They both are good for you. The main thing is to select one of all by the design of the remote :) You could think about choosing one with similar size to the original remote so that you could put it into the VOLVO remote casing  :P  Just an idea :)

The stock alarm in your car is activated in two ways - by hand with the kay or by the remote. So if you lock the car with the aftermarket alarm with this single key pres on the remote of the aftermarket alarm you do two things - lock the car and activate the stock alarm. And all this for less than 20 buks :) (if you do it yourself)
GOOD LUCK
