1st gen vs 2nd gen wheel compatibility/bolt pattern

Hello there,

Would someone please let me know if the wheels from a 2007 s80 will work (properly) on a 2004 S80. From what I've been able to research so far, they have the same bolt pattern, yet most sites list them separately: 99-2006 and then 2007 and up. I am about to purchase 2nd gen wheels for my 2004 model and want to check before blowing it. Lastly, will spacers do the trick... and I'm not familiar with them; are there any drawbacks from using spacers or other wheel adapters?
