Transmission Problem

Post by Bfranklin »

Hello all, I am having a little trouble with my 1992 960 wagon. I purchased this car about 6 months ago and it has always done this, but drives me nuts. When driving the car after warm up immediatly after the trans shifts into 3rd gear the torque converter clutch locks up, than about a half second later it unlocks, than about 2 seconds later it locks up again. This drives me crazy. Something else too when driving through some hilly roads in 4th gear and going down a hill, letting go of the gas pedal just a little bit, the trans down shifts into 3rd gear and gives engine breaking. I was wondering if these things are related, i was thinking it could be a small vacuum leak, but the car runs well, milage is not great but its a big heavy car. I get about 11 liters per 100 KM with mixed driving. Any suggestions would be appreciated.

some pointers: oil level? transmission (governor) and kick-down adjustment? (I just assume your transmission is not microprocessor controlled yet)
