'98 Bevel Gearbox and PropShaft

Post by renns »

Parts as removed from early '98 Volvo V70 AWD. The bevel gearbox has about 120,000 kms (70,000 miles), as it was replaced under warranty by the previous owner. The propshaft, as far as I know, is original to the car, with 220,000 kms (130,000 km). Both items in good working order when removed a few months back. Pickup preferred, but I will ship if the price is right. Make an offer.

First, if it was replaced, WHY?
There must be something wrong with it
Next, 1998 use two different propshafts and possibly different bevel gears,
You need to find out whether yours are out of a late or an early build car
Mod note. Jim passed away in early 2022, his contributions to this forum are immortal, and he is missed. RIP

I converted my car temporarily to FWD to improve access to turbo oil and coolant lines. I'm happy with the car in this configuration, and have decided to leave it like this rather than return to the complexity of the AWD. To be clear, the bevel gearbox for sale is the newer one, as replaced by the dealer. I have no idea why it was replaced, but service records clearly show the transmission and bevel gearbox were both replaced at about 90,000 km. I'm sure the previous owner was very happy he purchased the extended warranty!

As stated in the ad, this is an early '98 model.
