1) I have a 96 850t b5234ft with close to 350,000 miles now. The original tranny is now finally starting to slip in reverse(its been a great one) . If it matters I run around 14lb of boost on it and have for over 100k miles now. I have 2 questions to rebuild it would I need any Special Volvo only tools like a certain seal sizer like a gm 4L60 tranny uses on the nylon seals to overhaul it and would I need to prepare to change something in it outside of the Normal stuff( clutches and seals)?
2) This is my other question I also own a 95 850 N/a b5254s with traction control that has a bad engine. Could the transmissions interchange? I know the vss (vehicle speed sensor) is in s different location on the 95 I am not opposed to making the wiring work but would the trigger wheel sense the same number of pulses per tire revolution say for instance do they both have a 25 pin trigger wheel or is one say 25 and the other a different number? From what I read the 95 model car final drive ratio is 2.74 to 1 while the 96 turbo car is 2.54 to 1 I just think that would make it make it funner to drive. I know the it has a few other variances like tranny stall speed and such.
If I clear the vss hurdle would I receive a slip code due to final drive ratios being different? Could the trans ECU be swapped into the 96 to prevent drive ratio errors? The 95 has traction control and the 96 does not would the tranny ecu set a code for not seeing the traction control and is the inner workings (torque ratings) of the n/a and turbo tranny similar? Anyone with any experience the help would be greatly appreciated

350K miles is a amazing. If you are going to rebuild the transmission, it would be awesome if you could take some pictures and do a quick write up.
As for your questions about a special tool for the transmission, I do not believe that you need anything.

The traction control is a function of the ABS system, not the transmission.
On your car, the VSS isn't used...the car gets it's speed signal from the ABS. So, you can put in the 95 trans. Internally they're the same.

I had to replace the tranny in my '95 T-5R. There is a difference in the tranny's but not much. The tranny's in the '96 models have a wire that comes out of it whereas the '95 tranny is totally plugged. I would just shop around for a tranny with the right sn on it.
This cl post has some info in the '95 tranny. The 4th picture has the plug I was referring to. The tag has info that you should try to match.

Thank you for the help to Matty Moo, I'm interested in trying the 95 It needs to come out any way so I can get rid of the car before someone complains its an eye sore. You said the 95 could work Do you know if the final drive ratios being different would be a concern? I wont down my 96 the car till the week after Christmas I guess worst case the even if I have slip codes or what ever it give me time to work on the old one I don't have the luxury of a back up car.
