850, lots of boost + how to go even faster?

How to go faster, stop quicker, and turn harder. Chips, exhaust, larger turbos, bigger/slotted/drilled rotors, high performance brake pads, manual boost controllers, performance shocks/struts/springs, airbox mods and more! Also discussion on HID and Xenon lights, aftermarket foglights and other exterior lighting.

That's not an unreachable goal by any means. Aftermarket exhaust will really help free up those HP's so it's highly recommended to net the full 30-35bhp. Without that on an otherwise stock setup you can expect closer to 25bhp.

Thanks!

The top 3 items that will increase performance in order are:
1. Tune
2. Turbo (i.e. larger)
3. Exhaust, ideally including downpipe and high flow cat.

These three items are the primary components that will add power. My question to most folks is "what's your BHP target?" then it's easier to advise on what makes sense for them.

True, Lucky - and you're much more the expert than I, but you can't just say "larger turbo" without taking into account how much longer it will take to generate that power. Since you can't "tune" the TCM, if you're shifting at 6K and your not hitting full boost until 5k...

My 2 other additions to your three points would be a drop-in air filter in the stock box for nice cold, dense, air flow and enough fuel to support your tune. As you said, it 1st depends on your BHP goals, but if you have an open loop AFR target and your injectors won't get you there you are risking detonation. Larger injectors might should also be on the list.

I think another goal to ask besides BHP is when do you want that power? do you want quick mid-range power, or do you want high-end pull? The 15g might be plenty. Knowing that I'm FWD and not looking to win any street light races, I went to the 16t because my enjoyment comes on the turnpike when I'm already rolling.

I must say, though, I enjoy these basic discussions a lot better than a 4 page thread arguing how the Benouli Principle affects the positioning of your o2 sensor...

Certainly true, however Trophytaker asked about how to make 30-35 additional hp not 135 additional in which case then the conversation around spool time would come up as a turbo that large would have later spooling. For a 30-35 hp gain an 18T would be sufficient and spool time would be minimally affected.

Why can't I tune the TCM? been doing it for quite a few months now... both line pressure and shift points. granted I don't offer that service for 'sale' yet but it's in progress.

With the first answered the second generally can be then asked. I.e. if you want 500 bhp don't expect a daily driver. Conversely if you want touring car type power you probably won't be first down the drag strip. Neither of course are wrong/right but rather great questions to help folks find where and how they want their car to perform!

Lucky - I posted data logs earlier in this thread and you can see how late my 16t is spooling up. It might be my tune is holding it back a bit as it will spool and hold at the stock setting for a sec, then jump to 16lbs. Maybe the wastegate? Maybe less timing? IDK, but If you are "tinkering" with TCMs let me know - I'll gladly be a guinea pig. I've been looking at several companies offering that service, as well as companies that claim they can trick the ecu into telling the tcm it's not revving as high. I have gone so far as to consider "The Poi"s flappy paddle set-up from over on Volvospeed. This week I added all the fuel stuff: green giants, chrysler fpr, walbro fuel pump. I would like to think I've gotten my lean issues resolved. Now if only someone could change my shift points to say 6,700. Where would I find such a person?

And btw... I agree the first place to get the best bang/buck ratio is exhaust. I bought an OBX system for like $400. It comes with two DPs so depending on your flange you have extra. I sold it on eBay for $150. I cut out the little can muffler that comes with it, put a $50 used Borla in the tunnel behind the (hollow) cat, a nice sounding tip, and "voila" big gain for a few bucks and some creativity. I also wrapped the DP in header wrap which cuts down on drone - or at least moves it to the back of the car where it belongs.

Hmmmmm.... Sent it yesterday. I'll check to make certain I used the address you gave me. Mine is public so I don't mind positing [email protected] maybe I went to your spam folder. I'm oddly attracted to processed pork products.
