Outside tire wear on both front tires

I have reason to think my rack and pinion needs replacing on my 940GLE. I am getting outside wear on both tires and would like to know if someone can confirm that this could be caused by a worn rack and pinion unit.

do you notice looseness in the steering? it may just need an alignment. Outside wear on both tires usually denotes too much toe out. If your car has 150,000 miles and you have never rebuilt the bushings in the front end then maybe it is time.
