Hello all. This is my first post here, and I am hoping someone can share their expertise. The car is a 94 850 turbo. I am not a mechanic so please forgive my lack of correct terminology.
I had lots of oil leaking out, apparently from the oil cap, and possibly a bit from the dipstick. Some of it must've hit the fan, cuz there was oil everywhere under the hood. After reading up in here, I thought it was the oil seperator for sure. So today we took it all apart. The oil seperator was empty and clean. No plugged lines in/out of the seperator.
Long story short....there is a metal tube that runs along the top of the motor (underneath the plastic cover), around the sprk plug wires. It connects to what appears to be some sort of valve down near the bottom of the black pipe from the turbo, on the driver's side. This metal tube (vacuum line) was plugged.
It would appear to me that because this vacuum line was plugged, it could not open the valve near the bottom of the turbo pipe. The line from the oil seperator (the one that runs almost horizontal in front of the block, then around to the back on the driver's side) connects to this valve.
Would/could this be the possible cause of the oil coming back out of the cap? What does that valve do? There is an electrical connector on that valve. I believe it would be for a sensor or reading of some sort, versus actually operating the valve. Does anyone know for sure?

There was a technical bulletin put out in May 1998 detailing the replacement of this metal pipe with plastic (at least that is what I think it is) vacuum line.

This service bulletin applies to 1994 850 turbo models with a pipe routed under the cover plate for the spark plug wires.
What I did was unhook both ends of the rubber tubing that is connected to the metal pipe and replace with a piece of vacuum line, bypassing the metal tubing completely.

No more leaking oil. The metal line was cleared easily enough. I've driven it around for about 200 km's, and not a drop of oil anywhere. So far, so good.
