This winter we became aware that we were not getting any power to the rear wheels. Last summer we had the rear drive line replaced and I am suspicious that we may have had no power since then. I checked with a few car types and they indicated that now power indicates an issue with the 'transfer case' equivalent passing power to the drive line. The garage claims there is no possibility it has to do with any work they did, however the clown relaying this info is not the mechanic nor does he have any formal training in repair. Does anyone know of details to what could have been left undone or handled incorrectly that would lead to this issue? I want some detail to take to the table when I get back in touch with the shop.
Thanks!
Back wheels have no power??

get the car scanned with a volvo tool. put money that you will get a dem 0007 code. pressure switch $100 for the part, $25 for the fluid and you got working awd.

if this is a five cyl unit the sleve between angle drive and trans is stripped sometimes you only need to replace the sleeve other times the splines on the angle drive are gone also if the dem pressure switch was bad you usually will have a message in the dim or the codes will show up for that when scanned

I have a 5 cyl. and just found out my AWD is not working....the rear wheels are not turning. Do you know what causes the sleeve to become stripped. Mine is a 06 xc90 with approx. 68,000 miles.

The splined sleeve between trans and the angle gear is not that prone to failure. WHen they fail it is usually higher mileage.
Another fault like the DEM or the pressure or temp sensors are the more common problems.

we have replaced multipul sleeves on the 5cyl xc-90 units this can happen if you get the vech stuck and hit dry pavement while tires are spinning very easily we have also had two vech thay have run over deer causing this it is important to scan for codes first fault trace dem codes first

I've just replace the angle gear + sleeve and still have no power to the back wheels, the shop thinks its the A.O.C Pump (they are 90%) sure. Does this make sense? I don't want to replace un-necessary part plus its about $385.
Anything else might cause the back wheels (AWD) not to function? I have no warning or faults showing even when they scanned the car.
Thanks

Yes they can, they are a Volvo shop. He seemed sure and said that I won't harm the sleeve or the angle gear since there are no pressure on them if choose to drive the car as is. Would have a full name or part # of the pressure/temp sensor? I want to check how much.
Thanks
