99 Volvo V70, P0118, ECT Sensor Replacement

Post by seth1991 »

Hi,

I apologize if this post is redundant, I tried searching for a relevant post that showed what I'm looking for, but to no avail.

My 99 Volvo V70 currently has the CEL on, and is throwing the code P0118. I believe this to be the ECT Sensor failure, as I the cooling fan is coming on and staying on all the time, and stays on for a few minutes after the car is shut off. From what I have read so far on here (which is an amazing resource!), I believe that I need to replace the ECT sensor, and the thermostat as well to be safe. I am failing to find a consistent source to show where these parts are located, and how to replace them. Does anyone know of a good resource?

Also, is this the correct part for the ECT Sensor? (V70 1998-2002 Coolant Temp Sensor IAT Turbo 2001 Non-Turbo 1999-02 AFT 9125463 $ 15.59 Buy Now ) http://www.swedishautoparts.com/V70/volvo-v70-sensors.html.

And for the thermostat: www.swedishautoparts.com/V70/volvo-v70-heating-and-cooling-system-parts.html. Which temperature rating should I get? I live in VA, where summers are fairly hot, and winters are relatively mild (not sure if that makes a big difference).

Thank you so much!!!

The thermostat housing is located on the head right at the #1 cylinder. Once you remove the thermostat cover the ECT sensor is just below the thermostat. It looks like a brass bolt with wires coming out of it.

As far as parts go you can use the FCP website to verify part number matches. I have looked at swedishautoparts before buy I have never bought anything from them.
