oil filter woes
i bought a bosch distance plus model number D3402 oil filter.. and the s* didnt fit. my dad had a stp sa8 and it fit on mine but i dont think its even for this car. do you think it should be ok. it has the same fitting and stuff no leaks so far. i dont want to waist a whole mobile 1 oil change. im kinda upset tho as this filter i think the threads were defective cause i checked 2 different sites and the model numbers matched and it said it was for my car so i dunno. It wont affect the lifters or nothing? And the fram oil filter that i did have on there was put on accidently to tight and it wouldn't come off and i squished it with the oil filter remover then had to stick a long screw threw it and spin it took me like 15 mins till it came of cause it was just tearing the metal on the filter. this is the filter that was used http://www.autozone.com/autozone/parts/ ... =62844_0_0_ and this is the stp filter that is recommended for the car http://www.autozone.com/autozone/parts/ ... =188345023. do you think i will have any problems with the sa8????

I would deffinetly get a Mobil 1 filter and replace that stp. Also if you have the money get the Mann filters from IPD or FCP. They sell them by the dozen and they are relatively cheap for the quality but I would get rid of that STP as soon as you can. You should be fine with a Mobil 1 since it has a check valve as well. That is what I would do.

why would you be wasting a Mobil 1 oil change? the oil won't drain out of the car if you replace the filter.

Only a little spills out if you take the filter off. Put something under it, replace the filter, and pour the oil back in.
As long as the filter fits and doesn't leak, yeah, it's fine. Just go with a better one next time. I've never used one of those, but I either buy the Mann filters in a 6-pack or get a Napa Gold filter to go on there.

anyways i sea foamed my car earlier and it smoked like a jet rocket, the first time i sea-foamed the car it barley smoked. now i think since the pcv was bad it was getting oil and crud all in there and that's were all the smoke came from this time. but i was looking forward to using the cool Bosch filter. o well have to return it for a new 1.

+1 On installing a proper filter ASAP. You want to make sure you have a filter that was made to fit the car.
I picked up a S90 once that had a stuck filter. Took me about 45 minutes to get it off with a chissel. Nutts!!!

With Mobil 1 synthetic a 3,000 mile oil change is a huge waste of money and resources. There is a lot of opinion about it that I don't want to get started here, so I'll just suggest waiting until 5,000 miles - but frankly even today's dino oils can do 5000 miles easily. The 3,000 mile interval is a holdover from the days when oils were nowhere near as good as they are today. I use Mobil 1 and have used a 10,000 mile change interval with zero problems for decades.
When you put that new filter on, screw it on until the seal touches and then only tighten it 1/3 to 1/2 a turn more. That's all it takes.

o yea i don't do anything under 5000 lol. The last one was actually 7000 cause my car had got stolen and it sat in a tow yard for almost a month. But i got a Replacement Bosch long distance plus filter, thinking that the threads were just messed up in the other one. It was indeed the right model number. Maybe it just don't fit my car i dunno but i don't have a oil filter wrench to get the stp out of there, and i cant get it by hand. My pops did it to tight, He said he did it by hand so I am gonna go out there again and try in a few If i cant get it ill get a wrench for 7 bucks. I need 1 anyways. I noticed the oil leaking on the ground this morning there was like a softball sized stain but the oil filter wasn't even wet or had oil on it. i hope there isn't a leak. Also when i sea-foamed her there was ALLOT of smoke also coming from the back of the engine, NOT the turbo. Unless its the hose under the fresh air turbo hose. cause when i replaced that hose i saw a hose going to this circular metal thing, And then back to the turbo. So maybe the sea-foam leaked in there and made smoke. But i only saw this smoke one other time when i first bought it. And started her up cause she was sitting for a while. Now is there a crankcase vent somewhere in the rear of the engine? It runs like a beast so i don't think there is a serious air leak in the engine.
