Adding Gauges...98 v70 T5

Post by jbo6924 »

I'm considering adding 2-3 gauges to my 98 v70 T5 w/205,000+ miles, any suggestions or ideas? Turbo boost will be one of them. I don't really have any "issues" that I'm monitoring at this time, but would like to be practicle considering the age and mileage of the vehicle. I would welcome any input.

I would add a wideband air to fuel gauge and oil pressure gauge that's what I have but I want to add a egt gauge but not sure where to put it

What is an egt gauge?

An egt gauge measures Exhaust Gas Temperature. I'm not sure what temps a gas motor can handle. I do know a diesel truck can push 1200 degrees F when you work it hard. If your egt's get to high you risk melting pistons and more.

For a vehicle running mostly stock, this wouldn't be a a real concern would it? This seems like a gauge more for people who are pushing the limits of their 5 Cyl swede.

Boost pressure is useful - you can monitor performance and indicate turbo condition
Oil pressure is useful - always helps you monitor oil pumping condition

Anything else is just for show

2003 S80 2.9 (Son's Car)

2005 S40 2.4i (Bought new - since sold)

Yeah an egt gauge is only necessary when you start modifying the car.

on my 99 v70, i have added a 3 gauge pillar pod, with; boost, voltage and air/fuel ratio

boost for turbo monitoring, voltage because i have a big stereo, and air/fuel, because it looks cool when it sweeps...lol
