1989 760 GLE hesitation problem

Post by richf »

It doesn't hesitate while warming up and in park. When on road, it will hesitate badly when beginning from a stop. I believe the plug wires are in good shape, but maybe need new plugs. Replaced the mass air sensor a few months ago. Any thoughts for initial things to try?

The '89 760 should have an On-Board Diagnostic (OBD) unit in the engine compartment. Have you checked for fault codes?

Check the following:

All ignition and sensor leads for good connection.
Inside the distributor cap for tracking or moisture.
Rotor arm.
Plug leads.
Plugs. You can't guess at their condition. You need to get them out for proper inspection.
Throttle switch and connector.
Ignition and coil circuits.
Engine speed sensor.
Battery terminals and leads. Ensure the earth (ground) lead has a clean contact to the body.
