850r stalls out

Post by swedishmeatball88 »

I've had this 1996 volvo 850r for about a month and I love it. However, this morning, when I got into it and started it up, it started fine, but when I pressed down on the brake and shifted it into drive, it died. Tried again, and it worked fine, however the check engine light was on. On my lunch break, I went out to drive it again to see if the light was maybe gas cap related as I put gas in it last night, and I can't get the car out of the parking spot, it continuously dies. When I start it up, it idles fine, and will idle fine forever, but once I press the brake, the tachometer drops and if I shift quick enough, I can get it into drive, otherwise it cuts out.

When its cold out or raining, the gas pedal is somewhat hard to push which from looking on the forums is caused by the throttle body. It's pretty cold today, could the throttle body be doing this?

So I'm wondering what could be causing this and if I can do a quick and simple remedy to at least get the car home.

Thanks.

That one seems a little tough. I would look real hard for vacuum leaks, especially around the ICV. There is a chance that the valve is sticking or bad. Also, your throttle body may be real dirty and may need cleaning. You could have a bad MAF. Get the codes check so you'll know what the computer is crying about.

I had the codes scanned at autozone and it came back with po103, with seems to be the code for failed MAF sensor? Do you guys think that's what is causing this issue, and if so, could i replace it myself?
