Driving home the other night the driver side wiper suddenly shot right off the screen and out to the side of the car.
I put my arm out the window and shoved it back onto the screen. That was okay, but the wipers wouldn't work any more.
The fuse is okay and if I switch the wipers on with the car motor off, for quietness, I can hear what seems to be the wiper motor working, but nothing happens to the wipers. When the car motor is on I can't hear anything, the car motor is so noisy. She's an old care.
So I'm thinking maybe there's some mechanical break.
Anyone got any clues about how I should go about trouble shooting and fixing this problem?
The motor seems easily accessible. But any works beneath the 'scuttle' (?) seem to be totally inaccessible.

It sounds like the arm came off under the dash. Get a flashlight and look around. You may need to look at anoter volvo to see how to put it back together. There are small metal clips that hold them on, if you are lucky one of the little clips broke. Find the wiper motor first.
Hi... thanks for the reply. The wiper motor is easy to find on the 244GL. It is stuck on the firewall.
I've found one wiper rod connection and it seems okay.
If it was a connection come apart then you'd expect one wiper to work at least, eh?
So maybe - as neither wiper is working - I should take the motor off, it might be the very first connection, between the motor and the connecting rods.
