Right Front Control Arm Ball Joint

Everything on the Volvo S80. Sometimes called an "executive car", the S80 was Volvo's top-of-the-line passenger car. P2 platform.

Right Front Control Arm Ball Joint

Post by barons77 »

Hi im new to this forum and volvos in general. I recently bought a 2000 s80 for my girlfriend. Ive read the reviews but i got it for 1800 bucks and it only has a 130k on it. I took it to get inspected and it needs sway bar links a right front lower control arm. I was told by the mechanic that it was just the ball joint that is bad, not the actual arm, but he wanted to install a whole new one. Im doing the repairs myself and im wondering if i can just replace the ball joint itself and not the entire arm. thanks in advance for the help

I've had some good and extremely horrible experiences with the ball joints and front end components on my 1999 S80 2.9. So far I have had to replace the ball joints 3 times on the driver side and once on the passenger side. I had a ball joint fail on my passenger side as I was turning into my driveway. I basically had to rebuild the entire front end wheel components (both sides :? ) on my car aside from any of the break components. (knock on wood ) I also have a messed up fender because of this as well. I would defiantly get a second opinion before making any of the repairs, and don't forget to put the cotter pin in (no fault of mine I assure you, it was the shop's fault... ) otherwise you will have to rebuild your front end like I have had to.
