Hello,

I finally got this car running after replacing the regina fuel pump but now i have a transmission problem.
It doesn't shift from 2nd to 3rd gear, any idea what could be the problem?
The speedometer doesn't work but rpm meter does.

I just wanted to have an idea before i bring to the shop...

Any help will be appreciated.

hello everyone,

i made some research online and read that the kickdown cable may need adjustment, something i have never done,
i made my cousin push the gas pedal, the kickdown cable didn't move at all, please take a look at the video and tell me if that seems like not working.

Any help will be appreciated.

kick down cable looks fine. it is the lower one parallel to the upper accel pedal cable.
KD cable would make for delayed (has to get to high engine and road speed) shifts in all gears.
Cars that sit can have the seals harden. A cheap gamble is to buy Lucas or other trans additive that lists seal conditioning as one of its benefits and add that to trans. If it works, great. If not then it is $10 lost.

Thanks for your reply Jimmy,
I was planning to flush the tranny fluid before I got it to running condition, I think I am going to try to do that and add the additive as you recommended.

The previous owner said that it had been sitting for a year, so what you are pointing may be correct for my case.
I hope it will work...

Do not flush first. DO a double dose of the additive and then see if it resolves the problem. If it does then flush it later. The additives are also detergents and the stuff may dissolve some things that the flush can take away if you do the flush after the fix attempt with seal conditioners. Add additive and then go drive it and do repeated stops and easy take offs to let it upshift through the gears. Then it may be best to shut it off and try another test drive several hours later after the chemicals have had a chance to work on the seals.
I am not a user of additives but I have tried this on a few transmissions that had decent fluid with no burned smell in fluid in a car that
had sat stored and it has a decent chance of taking care of the problem. Something poured out of a can into fluid can't put friction lining back onto worn clutch plates, i.e., if it starts slipping when you drive almost every day then it likely isn't because seals hardened.

will do, any recommended brand for additive? all i know is lucas....

hello again,

i took your advice and put 1/3 of the lucas transmission additive and drove little bit. I didn't pour the whole bottle because i didn't want to over fill. It didn't help, popped up the hood and noticed that the kick down cable head was off the throttle, slackened the cable little bit and placed it back in its place.

Now it shifts from 2nd to 3rd but doesn't shift from 3rd to 4th... I really thought i fixed the problem but not quite...
i tried to adjust the cable by loosing the 2-13 mm bolts and drove around, didn't help.

Any suggestions?

Yes it is moving freely, I lubricated it also. I just need to make sure the adjustment of that cable is between 50.2 - 52.4mm which I read from the hayes manual...

After I read your message, i found out that ipd sells this bypass kit for 40 bucks, and people who used it and happy for results had the same problem I am having right now so I placed an order, hopefully it will come before friday...
