I have a 96 850R and am beginning to notice a vibration/rattle sound when I back the car up. It's usually loudest when braking while backing up. If the car is turned off at the end of this maneuver, it really rattles/vibrates when restarted and almost sounds like the motor/tranny is gonna fall out. The sound seems to be coming from the passenger side of the motor area. Does this sound like a motor mount that's reached the end of its life span? If so, is it a fairly easy replacement? Recommendations for OEM or aftermarket parts vendor??
Thanks,
Mike.
ps.. on another note.. just replaced all four rotors and pads that I purchased from a company called Brake Labs in Cali. They are the slotted/drilled rotors and the complete set was all very reasonably priced. Amazing stopping power now that everything is fresh. Fast service and delivery of parts. ... as far as rotors go, they look kinda neat too
Vibration/rattle. Maybe a motor mount?

That sounds like the front mount, which is on the pass side. The job is fairly strait forward and this write-up should help:The Bucket wrote:The sound seems to be coming from the passenger side of the motor area

As far as the maker, I prefer OEM but some members here use aftermarket brand which I have no experience at all.

I would go genuine Volvo on this only. Also be aware that this repair is part number/VIN number specific, as there was a change in the part that affects fit. You must use the proper part or the mount will not fit. Although the change only involves three bolts, it was not an easy job for me since one of the bolts is buried with a support flange on either side, so there was no room to get a wrench on it to turn. Many on this website have done this repair as a DIY, but it was one of the few that defeated me -- and I have done PCV systems, struts, starters, brakes, axles, etc., which are all far more complex
