97 960 with a misfire issue

Post by mechanye »

1997 960 with 150,000 miles. It developed a rough idle that throws a p0302 code. First I have swapped coils around that had resulted in not causeing a diferrent cyclinder to misfire (coil pack is good). Second, I swapped the ignition coils around which resulted in a p0305 code and not the p0302 code (lead to my assumption that the ignition module was bad that controls cyclinders 2,4,6). I replaced the ignition module. I still get the p0302 code and when swapped with the other one, i get the p0305 code. Now what the chances that the new module is bad and causes the same cyclinder to misfire? Any suggestions before I send this thing to the scrap yard?

Make sure the wires that go in the back of the coil pack connectors are in good. Mine was backing out and causing missfires.

thanks for your reply. I have checked that issue. The wire harness isn't in the best of shape but both banks run fine off the ignition module that controlled the odd number cyclinders. the ignition module that contolled the even numbered cyclinders was causing number two cylinder to misfire and when swapping it to the odd numbered ones it caused number 5 cyclinder to misfire. replaced the ignition module but am still having the same results.
