Heater blower motor

Just bought a 2000 s40. Drivers side carpet is wet underneath and was told that was from Detail-er shampooing carpet. I don,t seem to be loosing any coolant and car runs fine, Here's the real mystery! I noticed when i started the car to warm up and defrost the windshield this morning that no air was coming out of the vent on the dashboard but plenty was coming out of the cowl on the outside of the car. Is this a vent blockage or is my fan running backwards? How do you get to the fan? This is my daughter's 1st car and my first VOLVO. Can any one help me ?
