Battery drain

Post by smithone »

We have had several models of Volvo since 2003 & one recurring event is that after 2-3 days or more the car will not start. Battery is dead. Volvo dealer in Tulsa keeps attributing problem to a bad battery, however with this event seems to happen more often when car is not driven. I have made sure nothing is left on that would drain battery when not driven. There has to be another reason or something that's pulling off the battery & rendering it dead. Any thoughts?????????

Do a parasitic draw test. Use the search box above for "parasitic draw" or "battery drain, battery dead etc."

Go out in the dark and look through the thin gaps between the rear edge of the doors, is the red edge marker light staying lit when it should be off. Also check the glovebox light, vanity mirror lights any of these left on for a few days will have an effect on battery performance - Mike

It would help to know which model you are having the prolem with. Is it the C70?

In the 2002 XC70s there is a dehumidifier function that turns on the cabin fan when keys are not even inserted and it can run on high speed for more than 30 mins.

This is apparently a factory fitted feature and is mentioned in the user's manual. It flattened my XC70's battery twice before I sold it.

That must be still under warranty if it's a 2011 so take it back to the dealer - Mike
