S70T mileage

Post by bigkev414 »

My car consistently uses 13.2 litres/100kms, mainly town driving with about 30% freeway. That translates to about 22 or 3 miles per gallon. Been wondering How that compares with others. It's the least economical of all the Volvos we've had (20 plus) and my records are not comprehensive but the nearest was a '95 S40 which used about the same. All the rest were about 10% more economical.
Any comments will be read with interest. :|

Sounds about right. Have you done a Stage 0 on it?

I average 23 most of the time doing a mix of city/country road driving at speeds from 25-65.

That is what Volvo say you should get. Do you have the trip gauge? If so, what is the average speed? Here are so mpg suggestions: http://volvoforums.com/forum/general-vo ... ove-52933/

Thanks for the confirmation everybody. When they built these the fuel price wasn't an issue - its nearly TRIPLE now compared to 2000, and we have to use premium 95 RON which costs more again or the car displays it's 'displeasure'.

We have 87-89-93. If you go a bit farther north, they have 91, or some places have 91 and 93.

The thing for me is the huge price gap in other areas (Northern VA or farther north) between regular and premium. Sometimes it will be 40 cents more per gallon, and that is NOT worth it.

I use 89 just about every tank and it works just fine unless it's during the hot summer months running AC. It gets the same gas mileage as 93, and the power is just fine as well.

I made the mistake of putting in 87 twice. It was TERRIBLE. Didn't want to accelerate at all and gas mileage was awful because I kept mashing on the gas harder because it really didn't want to move.\

That's aobut right for around-town driving.

I can't tell any difference in any grade of gas I use. So I just get the cheapest.

The octane ratings of most of the world can't be compared to that in the US, Canada or Brazil. They tend to use the RON method, while we use the average of RON plus AKI. (RON is Research Octane and AKI is Anti-Knock. Here's the write up in brief from Wikipedia:
"In most countries, including Australia and all of those in Europe, the "headline" octane rating shown on the pump is the RON, but in Canada, the United States and some other countries, like Brazil, the headline number is the average of the RON and the MON, called the Anti-Knock Index (AKI, and often written on pumps as (R+M)/2). It may also sometimes be called the Pump Octane Number (PON)." We all clear on that? (There's about 8-10 point difference!)

Very interesting Sim - so, we have to use minimum 95 RON in our cars as my owners manual says: what does the manual say for US marketed cars ? I'm not quite clear on the direction of the difference; am I right in assuming that is your 91 or 93 are comparative to our 95 or 98 RON ? (unless we buy it from the Indian owned 7 Elevens in which case you have to reduce the rating to allow for the water added). I have been wondering about this for a while when reading various posts. Thanks for the info.
