The Volvo manual says 87 octane (our scale) is the minimum, but 91 is recommended.

I believe that's about the equivalent as I understand it. I was surprised to read in our BMWs owners manual that they want you to use 98 or 100 octane.

So,every morning I take 7 mi drive with 8-9 stop lights along the way(most of them turn red on my approach) on 91 octane. 19.4 MPG.Next morning they are almost all green on approach-21 MPG. Then, on weekend, 30 mi run on the expressway- 32-36 MPG. My point is, there is no precise science in it with so many variables- the driving habits, driving conditions, outdoor ambient, frequency of stop and go's (especially in the urban area). My original window sticker for '98 s70 T5 says: 18mi city,25 mi highway.jblackburn wrote:I average 23 most of the time doing a mix of city/country road driving at speeds from 25-65.

If gas was that much for me, I'd own a Geo Metro or something.
It's $3.25-ish here for mid-grade (89) as of tonight.

You kind of beat me to it....I was just about to send you a message and ask how much it is in Turkey so I could compare it with ours which is average $1.55 per litre for 95 RON but it does fluctuate a lot and nobody can ever find out why. For some incomprehensible reason apparently our oil prices are based on the Singapore exchange even though we produce about 80% of our requirements (so I read - I may stand corrected?)
That equates to around $7.00 per gallon (US and AU are about the same)

About $3.60 a gallon in new england for 89, #3.70 for 91. My 98v70 Low pressure turbo is fine with the 89, 87 however and it runs a little ragged.

Guess you're using imperial gallons in Australia, 1 US gallon equals 3.785 liters and 1 imperial gallon equals 4.546 liters. So you're paying $5.86 USD / US gallons in Australia which is still quite cheap compared to Turkey. We're doomed down here!bigkev414 wrote:You kind of beat me to it....I was just about to send you a message and ask how much it is in Turkey so I could compare it with ours which is average $1.55 per litre for 95 RON but it does fluctuate a lot and nobody can ever find out why. My bet is that the highest would be Japan. When I was there 24 years ago I was paying about $8 per gallon.
