Door Chime and lights wont go off. 99 S70

I have a 99 S70 and when I close my door, the lights up by the rear view mirror will not go off and the door chime keeps chiming. I have to keep slamming the door and after about 10 closes, the lights will go off. Can anyone tell what I need to do to get this fix. Thanks.

The door latch mechanism contains the switch that *most* cars just have a button for.

It's a real pain in the butt to get to.

The lights and dinging occur because either you left a door part
way open or the switch that Justin mentioned has gone bad.
The "door open" switch has migrated into the latch mechanism
on almost all cars these days. Faster to install when they build'em
and generally they last longer than the old "pin" style from way back.

( Another possiblity for some is a blown fuse - always worth checking!
That isn't the case here if repeated closing fixes it, but worth knowing. )

Before you start tearing the door apart, get out the WD-40 and give the
latch a few good shots. Then open and close the door about a half dozen
times to spread the WD around. You may get lucky and get it working.
