A/c Compressor Bypass Pulley?

Post by haw09003 »

Hi guys,

I am new here. My car is 2000 V40 with 163000 miles and is suffering the bad a/c compressor clutch/pulley issue. Because the pulley of compressor won't spin any more, I got rubber-like smoke from it and actually the drive belt fell out from the whole belt/pulley system. I have several questions:

1) is it possible that I just change the pulley and/or clutch without removing/replacing the whole a/c compressor?

2) If I cannot just replace the pulley, can I use a bypass pulley to replace the a/c compressor? (sure, I won't have any cold air) I looked for some time online but haven't found the right part for volvo yet...

3) If there is no such bypass pulley, can I use a shorter drive belt to bypass the a/c compressor?

Any ideals?

Thanks!

Han

Volvo is not showing a "no AC' version of this system. You should replace the AC compressor and clutch.

OK... althogh I have let two garages check my car and both of them gave me the same conclusion (~1000 bucks...), I still hope I can bypass the damn a/c compressor. This time, Volvo really demonstrates itself an expensive car.
