Rough running 2001 S40 after changing coil packs

Post by jvswan »

Hi all,

I've found a lot of good info on this site. I appreciate it!

I recently purchased a 2001 S40 as a replacement after my last car was wrecked. Unfortunately, after a few days it started to run rough until it is well warmed up (about 5-10 minutes of highway driving). Now, it also has a bad metal screeching/pulley noise coming from the engine compartment on the driver's side. That goes away when it warms up.

I took it to the auto-parts place and they plugged in the computer deal and it showed that cylinder 1 is mis-firing, so I replaced all plugs and both coils. But, alas... No joy. The problem persists. It even dies if the car is warm, but has been parked for a few minutes. It gets really rough, and dies when I shift to drive and press the accelerator.

Any suggestions? I've read that some folks replace the MAP sensors. Will that do the trick? Anything else I should check out?

Any suggestions for a next step? Should I replace the MAP sensors?
