Service Reminder Indicator reset

I prefer to do my own maintainance to all my vehichles. I just bought a 2003 XC90 and am trying to figure out how to reset the service reminder message without taking it to the dealer (1 1/2 hours drive away). Is this possible or not?

If it does I'll add XC90 to that page.

Thanks for the info, but, what is the "day counter reset button"? I tried this with the trip odometer reset button, but it didn't work. The Clock/set button on the instrument cluster is a twist style and doesn't seem to want to be pressed. I tried it anyway, to no avail. Do you have any other suggestions?

I think it's an English term for trip odometer. I think. Anyway, it's the trip odometer.

I found this in this forum, but it basically says the same thing:

All models for 1999 and on can be reset by putting the ignition key into position I, push in and hold the odometer reset button (use your left hand), move the ignition key to position II, when the service light begins to blink,let go of the odometer reset button. Confirm by turning your Volvo off then on again.

1. Turn ignition switch to position I.
2. Press and hold "day counter reset button".
3. Turn ignition to position II.
4. Continue holding day counter for about 10 seconds.
5. After SRL flashes, release day counter button.
6. Should hear "beep-beep" to confirm command accepted.

Thanks for the help. The technique you described works with one minor change. You have to make sure that you release the trip odometer reset while the warning symbol in the center of the instrument cluster is flashing. If you hold it in too long, it doesn't take. However, if you release it while it's still flashing, it works perfectly.

After calling USA Volvo customer support and my local dealer I was sure I would have to bring in my XC90 to have the service light reset, then I came across this website... Thanks very much it worked.... I would have driven 2 plus Hrs just to get this simple reset taken care of... It's obvious Volvo service doesn't want to share this information so we'll have to continue using websites like these to get around their strong-hold...
