I'm so glad to know I'm not the only one who feels this way. English is a great language - artistic and articulate. We better everyone when we use it well.

Doesn't sound as good as French or Spanish to my ear, but better than Flemish! And it is the worlds standardized aircraft/ground control communication language. Not that that alone truly means much to some automobile Internet forum like us, but it means we likely do enjoy at least a sufficient number of technical words and phrases*.

Chopperfreak or Al, can you write to this topic the following, in Spanish:

"If you're not good with English, please Private Message me what you want to ask and I'll translate."

I'll add that translation here and there at MVS so that it can be seen by Spanish speakers.

*I'm not a linguist, but I'd guess we have more words to express ourselves in English than in French, if I had to. I know I'm going to get myself in trouble with that, but there it is.

Si tienen dificultad escribiendo o expresandose en ingles, favor de enviarme un mensaje privado (PM) y digame que necesitan comunicar. Yo en torno se lo traducire en ingles aqui en nuestro foro.

Igual aca, cualquier cosa nos pueden dejar saber para traducir, recuerden que hay algunos terminos especificos que no tienen traduccion al español

( same here , if anything let us know and we will help translate, remember that there are some terms ( names) that do not have a proper spanish translation)

The only catch is the Spanish speaking user needs to register to be able to PM you guys. I don't think that's a big hurdle.

I've been away from the site for months now. That is to say, I've been too busy with 'life' happening (the bad life), even though I've needed the use of this site, and the help from all the awesome members here. But this is the first thread I came across when I logged in just now.

I have to say I agree, and I hope I'm not guilty of any of this. Actually, I think sometimes in previous posts I've felt as though I put too much information (or at least words).

But I try and find information on my own before I ask for help from MVS, at very least so that I know WHAT I'm asking about.

In regards to searching on MVS, one thing I find hard sometimes is searching the forums. I don't know what phrase keywords to enter into the search field. Sometimes I either get no results, or way too many. Now, getting way too many isn't bad. You just have to spend a little extra time sifting through the results, thats all. For example; now I'm looking for relevant threads/posts on this problem: "My V70 ran low on oil, while driving" and it's in rough shape. How would I search that properly? If I search "Ran on no oil", "Low on oil", or something similar, I get no hits. If I search something generic to do with "oil problem", I get a tonne of hits that aren't what I'm looking for (at least, not yet

)

Anyways, that's maybe a little off the subject. I think everybody should make a little more of an effort to keep this site as good as it is, as Matt and the mods request...or suggest.

When posting it's often quicker and more convenient to use acronyms, abbreviations, etcetera. Typographical errors and occasional spelling errors are usually not objectionable, but can cause confusion when intermingled with abbreviations.

What's more bothersome is lazy writing. If someone is going to post a question and ask for help or advice, I don't expect to have to scrutinize their sloppy paragraph jumble to figure out what they are asking. A complete lack of details and information is another problem.

I'm very interested sharing helpful Q&A about our Volvo's but I ignore posts where the author was too lazy to clearly describe or articulate their question.

I feel exactly the same way sometimes. I know as a moderator, I should at least try to answer anything I know an answer to...but when it just takes too much concentration to even understand the post...I just don't care anymore.

Case in point:

"My 850 radio will not display off code nothing but will light up when turned on ive left it on for 3+ hours in the I position with the radio on and off . There is no cd player and even though it doesnt work ive tryed holding n the fuse . Any ideas"

I was genuinely interested in helping but I read this post over and over and, honestly have no clue what is being stated or asked.

Does that mean "radio will not display. Off code. Nothing "
or does it mean "radio will not display off or code. Nothing."
or does it mean "radio will not display off code. Nothing"

Seriously, I'm not being obtuse here. I was trying to help and have *NO* clue what this person is saying .

Reminds me of some Computer Support days where I would get angry calls like "hey I did that thing with the whatsit-called and then it did the other thingy there and then it wasn't doin it and I wanted to do that and whats wrong ?!?"

What's wrong is that I'm on the phone with you....that's what's wrong!

I see this is an old and ongoing post, and thank you for it. I too do a lot of work on my iphone snd, therefore, don't always get all my capitals i's, etc. Typing is the worst thing to do in an iPhone, but i will try to prove. O

One item that sometimes needs attention: assuming the knowledge of the poster. Just because someone says "did you ceck the upper motor mount" on an 850 t5, and you know that 80% of people know that, please try not to cone back with "wadda ya think i am, a idiot??? I'm sure this is covered under etiquette somewhere too.

Also pleade provide mileage in kilometers and miles for those of us who's cars are in km's, especially those of us in CanadaWe will endeavor to do the same. The models are identical North American version, other than the dashboards.

I am also available to translate to and from French

Any rules against smileys?
