I have started the process of replacing the timing belt and all was going smooth until I started removing the serpentine belt. I don't necessarily need to replace it for the timing belt but since I'm up to my elbows I should go a head and take care of everything.
I have enough visibility and was able to remove the serpentine belt from the tensioner but can't remove it from the harmonic balancer crank case pulley. There is one nut in the center and 4 bolts around the center. Since the timing belt wraps around the the pulley also I will struggle with the same problems as the serpentine belt.
I've seen several post on older models that doesn't require it to be removed, but I don't see any other way to remove the timing belt or serpentine belt. I looked at removing the motor mount, but the bolt to the engine is right behind the harmonic balancer, so if I went the route of removing the motor mount I think I would have to remove the harmonic balancer anyway.
How can I remove the harmonic balancer when it is stuck?
Thanks,

Unfortunatly it has to be removed. Its one heck of a process but the way to do it is remove the 4 small bolts. Once they are off, you need to lock the crank in place and using a torque rench, loosen the centre not. Torqued at 180 NM so it will feel like you are lifting the entire motor. Once that's loose, its a pritty easy process. Remove the harmonic balancer, put the nut back on and turn your crank till your timing marks Align on the cam cover. Simple from there
