Re: Delay wiper upgrade for 850 / V70 models
Just bought one of the "99" relays off of ebay for $7.50, thanks to your tip. The relay part number is "1HM 955 531A" with "05 080101" beneath it. I'll install it tomorrow. I've been wanting to get adjustable delay for years but couldn't justify the high price. Thanks for letting me know that there was a lower cost alternative!

Someone gave me the relay last year and I just hadn't gotten around to installing it until today. The installation instructions on the IPD site were extremely helpful!

I ended up putting one in my car a few months ago. It requires quite a bit of stretching and twisting to get up under the dash that far, but once you do it, it is GREAT in light rain in misty conditions, I love it!

It is a very nice upgrade to the stock wiper system although it does require a lot of twisting. The installation itself isn;t bad at all though. For the life of me, idk why Volvo didn't design the car with an adjustable speed setting...???

If anybody has fitted this mod can they tell me the instructions for changing speeds of the intermittent wiper?

I know there are two ways, to do with which relay you get. I only remember the method that works with the relay I put in:
Click the wiper arm up to the intermittent setting. Pull the arm toward you briefly, the wipers will wipe. When you want them to wipe again, pull it a second brief time. This sets the interval, and it will maintain that interval until you shut them off. If you don't pull it a second time it will go to the longest interval, which is like 20 seconds between wipes.
I think the other variant on this is something similar, try pulling the wiper stalk towards you see what you get. Not long enough to get washer fluid to spray, just to get the wipers moving.

Thankyou always wondered how it was activated. Will look around the nearest pick & pull for one and try it.

I set mine another way
Flip the wiper arm up then rignt back to off, then start counting, when you hit the desired time, flip back up.
Works the same

Here is a good link to the iPd relay. They have come down a lot.

I wonder if the pause time will be reset if you switch the wipers on to low/steady?
