I just bought some Yokohama c.drive tyres.
The tyre has written on it "Danger do not inflate beyond 40psi to seat beads"
I was told at a driver instruction course that it is best to have tyres inflated much higher than the recommended amount because the recommended amount is only for comfort and that race car tyres are inflated to 80 psi.
Higher tyre inflation means better safety and fuel economy (or so I was told at the drive instruction course many years ago) and I used to inflate my old tyres to 44psi front and 42 psi rear.
What do others think. Is it really dangerous to inflate the c.drive tyres beyond 40 psi?
What does the statement mean with regard to seat beads?
I am Australian so these tyres may not be available in US
Tyres Why is it dangerous to inflate beyond 40 psi?

The warning on the tyres is intended for the person who fits the tyres - they must not be over-inflated to seat the beads when fitting as the tyre may blow off the rim if it has not been fitted correctly.
As to the advice given on your driver instuction course - it may be erroneous as the vehicle and tyre manufacturers work together to arrive at the correct pressures for different situations. Follow their recommendations for your road use. In the UK if tyres are not inflated correctly and the vehicle is involved in an accident most insurers will refuse to pay out!
Bill.
