1989 240 error code 2_3_2

Hello, my 89 240 has been idling erratically; normal sometimes but can go up to 1500 rpm. the efi self-diagnosis kit returns error code 2-3-2, "fuel system compensating for rich or lean mixture at idle," frm haynes manual. what are the possible causes of this and solutions? thanks

2-3-2 can be set by an intake air leak, faulty Mass Air Flow (MAF) meter, faulty MAF wiring, fuel in the engine oil, faulty injectors, fuel pressure, faulty engine coolant temperature sensor or a faulty oxygen sensor.

Have you tried erasing the code and running the car to see if it returns? This is always my first job as codes can be set by a minor glitch in the system and never return.

Thanks! We thoroughly checked for leaks, didn't find any...no codes for the MAF, but i'm having someone look at the other things you mentioned today...should have a report in the evening!
