740gle trans. problem

trans. shifts fine & does not slip. But sometimes will not shift into high gear.
I done a t tech & still same problem.Any ideas?
not sure which trans. I have but it does not have the overdrive switch.

My friend has had the computer chip that controls overdrive burn out on his 89 740 standard trans once, I'm not sure if the auto trans has the same setup but getting that tested might help. Or a simple check is to visually inspect the wires next to the shifter mechanism under the car. I had overdrive fail on me once on my 87 740 and fortunatly my friend who owns a Volvo specialty shop pointed them out to me and it was a simple fix. There are just two wires in a flexible hose that go from the button to the trans. that if weathered enough the insulation will fail and the wires short out. Not really hard to replace them but easier to just put new heatsrink on the affected area.
