c70 2001 bulb change gear selector area

another burnt out bulb, oh well I am used to it but this one I cant get at. Its the one that illuminates the panel below the shifter, also the cigarette lighter has "pushed thru" and disappeared down there somewhere. How do I get this panel off?
This is not the time for a bigger hammer.

Unfortunately it's a bit of a task...you have to remove the center console and then pull up and remove the gear shifter knob before you're able to get under there. Here are some pdf files that will help you. Hopefully you won't have to use the hammer.. LOL

were you able to remove the console on your convertible? the instructions did not work on mine (2004 C70); the back console on the floor seems to be attached to the front middle console.
