Being a life long shade-tree mechanic, I actually enjoy working on my cars.
I'm not actually looking to buy a "hobby" car but I enjoy browsing around and seeing what's out there.
Why do I keep finding some obscure car that one couldn't find parts for anyway? !
Just came across this while noodling around, looking at pictures. Its a 1976 Volvo 66GLT. What a cool little old car.
Oh, wait....it came from DAF a Dutch truck maker and they (apparently) were European cars with only a few in the US so there are no parts, no junkyards nothing to be had over here.
Why the impossible?

Volvo took over DAF cars in 1976 re-badging the 66 as a Volvo. In some respects they were way ahead of their time, even as DAF models. The Variomatic transmission was more efficient than normal automatic transmissions being infinitely variable in its ratios and there were no noticeable gear changes. Critics scoffed at the "elastic band" transmission but it was a pleasure to drive.

Volvo carried on production at the Netherlands factory producing the 3 series, not available in the US and the 4 series which may have had some sales in the US.

You never cease to amaze me Fazool; you must have an 'odd' streak in you like I have....drawn to the unusual (you should see my wife) because we seem to cross paths on a couple of forums. The early 360 made by DAF was sold here downunder but I can't remember the actual badge details. I know they were pretty crap and rated about the same as Skoda or those abysmal old SAAB's with no power steering that came standard with a spanish windlass with to wind the steering wheel around.fazool wrote:Being a life long shade-tree mechanic, I actually enjoy working on my cars.
