TRANSMISSION TROUBLE

Post by wcsarge »

Hello, I have a 1997 Volvo 960 with an automatic transmission. The problem I'm having is intermittent. It'll sometimes flash an arrow on the dash indicating a fault in the automatic gearbox. The PCM troubleshooting code is P0705, determining that a malfunction exists in the electrical circuit for the transmission range sensor. Are their any suggestions that might help me identify the cause of the problem before I have to take it to the dealer? Where exactly is the range sensor? The vehicle still drives without any problem. Although, sometimes I'm unable to choose the driving mode. When I put the car in gear it'll engage in the winter/wet mode even though that position has not been selected. Thanks

1993 Volvo 960 here withthe SAME problem. After two mechanics and three different fixes, the problem keeps returning and has begun affecting my cars ability to switch gears, especially at low speeds. Finally bit the bullet and at a transmission guy's recommendation, spent $2000 US to have the transmission rebuilt... This morning (4 days later...) the light is flashing again!!!! I am devastated and broke. Help!

My problem was in the neutral safety switch...Rather then pay $125 for a new switch I opted to disassemble and clean mine myself. I also repacked it with a dielectric grease. It was relatively easy and well worth the time and effort. We'll have to see how long it lasts....This website may provide more insight...Goodluck
