Type of gas to use on S80

Everything on the Volvo S80. Sometimes called an "executive car", the S80 was Volvo's top-of-the-line passenger car. P2 platform.

Type of gas to use on S80

Post by macplee »

I noticed, even on carfax report that a 2004 S80 requires premium gas. Is this correct? I am about to purchase an 04 or 05 S80 and would like to hear other S80 owners on what gas they use. Many thanks

I think premium is recommended for the turbo (2.5 on some 2004 and 2005+ models). T6 should take premium as well.

The 2.9 can take regular.

(suggestion-buy a 2.5!!!)

I've run regular in my 2001 T6 most of the time. (They were charging over .30/gal higher for premium at the time I bought the car...).

I haven't noticed any mileage differences, but it definitely affects your power if you like to stay on the turbo.

I ran regular gas in my 850 as long as I had it, had no problems (wasn't a turbo, though)

For just cruising, you might be able to get by on regular. But, as a disclaimer here, I don't know if there's a long-term consequence from it. I've only done this for about a year.

Personally, I don't think any California gas can be considered premium...

I've been running regular for 4 years in my 2001 2.9 non turbo. I read either in my owner's manual or AllData that regular gas meets the fuel rquirements.

I've ran regular in my 99 s80 t6 for over a year and haven't seen any problems. The only you have to run in these cars is synthetic. If you don't your turbo will not get lubricated properly
