Avoid FCP! The worst service I've ever experienced!

Post by PatrickSmith »

I feel the need to throw out a disclaimer. I am not a difficult customer. Very very rarely do I need to return something, and I don't think I've ever sent my food back to a restaurant kitchen (No, I am not a blimp--150lbs). I own my own coffee roasting company, so I know what a pain difficult customers can be. I work hard not to be THAT guy. Ok on with it.....

I needed a turbo for my 2000 V70XC. I called FCP on the recommendation of a friend. I spent $1,200 on a turbo, a coolant reservoir, & some hoses. I knew they were getting the turbo in from the local dealership, so I called the next day to add the turbo oil supply line to the order. I talked to either Mike or Nick & the words from his mouth were, "Sure. No problem. We can still get that on there." Box shows up, I take it to my mechanic, I get a call later. "No oil supply line." I call FCP, they're not apologetic, they tell me they can't do anything for me until I get them the Engine Serial Number.

"You told me that with the turbo as well, & I told you it is not on my timing belt cover. When an $1000 part was on the line, you guys figured out which engine I have. I have the VIN, I have the Engine Code. I don't have the serial number." They told me with no apology in word or tone that I was on my own. I did some digging, found the serial number, contacted them with it. They wanted to charge me more than my local Volvo dealership for the part & they wanted me to pay $10 to ship it.

"Wait a minute. This was supposed to go on my $1,200 order two weeks ago & you guys are the ones who screwed it up! That order was large enough to qualify for free shipping! You won't waive shipping on the part you forgot to send me!?"

The answer was no. They wouldn't. I won't spend another penny there, and if I had it to over again, I would spend $200 more somewhere else, just so they didn't get my money. Don't make the same mistake I did.

Avoid FCP!!

Patrick,

I am sorry to hear that you had such a bad experience with us. Did you talk to Mike or Nick the second time around?

I have to echo what the other guys are saying...... I have only had my V70 6 months and had many small issues with it being an early P2, but FCP has been outstanding to get what I need to get me back on the road fast.

I have never had any problems with the guys, or the service at FCP. It's really the only place I've dealt with since my very first parts order (from anther 3 letter acronym volvo specialist) - who are completely unreasonable when it comes to shipping to Canada, the last time I checked anyway (to be fair).

You guys (FCP) are friendly, and knowledgeable. And you always try and do the best price on parts, and shipping you can for me. I really appreciate that.

Please keep that up, I can't be the only Canadian who really appreciates this.
I ordered rotors and pads for all four corners from you over a year ago, to Newfoundland and was happily surprised at the shipping price I got.

That's my experience so far.
Thanks :)

I've ordered lots of parts through FCP and had no problem. My biggest purchase recently was a catalytic converter. The unit arrived w/ a dent to the honeycomb. I emailed the FCP Returns department, they had me send a couple pictures, and the replacement unit is on its way. They've been nothing but supportive. FCP also sent me a 20% off coupon code that I've seen mentioned on this forum recently. +1 for FCP!

+1 to all of the positive comments here. I've done probably $5000 worth of business with FCP over the past at least 7 years between my 3 745's, 765, V90, Audi A4 and now the S70 not to mention friends cars (people become your friend when they hear you can work on Volvos...) etc. Even though sometimes prices are higher than the "other" 3 letter acronym Volvo folks, I'll always go with FCP because they've always been good to me. I have probably sent 5 - 10 people their way for Volvos, SAABs, BMW's and even the odd Mercedes driver who knows what a wrench is and I've heard nothing but positives from all of them.

Yeah, they make mistakes, we all do. But each time they have been very quick to make things right.

To the OP: I don't doubt you had a bad experience and I'm sorry to hear it, but I know FCP will do everything they can to make it right. Best of luck.
