I have a 2006 s40 with 66k miles on it. I have been battling with the dealer but they have no clue what to do. I get the following error” Brake failure, stop Safely”, followed by “Engine System Service Urgent” error on my LED. This error leads to the car running in “limp” mode as if the car is trying to drive with the emergency brake on with the speedo and tachometer going down to 0 and the trip odometer also having dashes across. I have to pull over and turn the car off and typically the first two occurrences (with 10 minutes of each other) lets me drive the car with the red triangle warning on my dash and the about 5 minutes later it repeats itself. The only time this ever happens is when I do a paper route (every other week) and it occurs in about the same spot every time of the route. Has anyone ever encountered this? If I don’t do the paper route, the car is flawless and runs like perfection. It is something about the route and I’m not sure if the stopping and start sets this off? Once I stop doing the paper route, I drive the car (with my 3 kids in the back) on my normal commute and there is no problem. The dealer says the codes that they are pulling are “phantom” and have no relation to the error.
I am hoping someone might have some insight?
I so appreciate anything at this point!
Thanks!
Brake Failure Stop Safely
Hello I have had this fault on my wifes S40 twice this week both times it says "brake failure stop safely" we found that it was the battery that was running low once we charged it up no problems! when you are doing your paper route are you using a lot of juice, heated seats, fan, radio etc?
Hope this helps
