Replacing the in-tank fuel sender unit
The instructions sound so simple. After devising a tool to rotate the locking cap, then just “lift the sender unit out of the tank.” There are 2 hoses attached preventing removal. One hose leads to the fuel filter and inline pump. I got that one off. The other leads to a screw-in fitting on a metal tube. I keep pushing it off the pump nipple, but the nipple seems extraordinarily long! The local mechanic says I should cut the hose off, but then I can’t unscrew the other end to replace it. Do you have any tricks to either remove it from the sender unit nipple? Or to unscrew it at the other end without twisting and breaking the metal tube it is attached to?

I ended up slicing the stuck tube off. Apparently, the nipples it was attached to have ridges that make tube removal very difficult. After slicing the whole tube off both ends, I replaced it with a similar tube and secured each end with hose clamps.
